Valve Releases Proton 6.3 BY Ekianjo April 3, 2021 Leave a Comment We knew it was coming, and here it is: the latest Proton now rebased on top of WINE 6.3 ( dating from end of February, so Proton is behind the dev branch by a month or so). Yet the Proton project on its own has already changed the face of PC gaming on Linux, and shows that Valve is committed to far more than simply pushing out iterative updates for Counter-Strike or figuring out an anti-cheat that doesn’t make honest players rip their hair out by the fistful. In 2010, we announced Steam Play: a way for Steam users to access Windows, Mac and Linux versions of Steam games with a single purchase. More than 3000 of the games that have been added to Steam after that point have included Linux support, with more titles being added every day. Since then, we've continued to look for ways to make more titles easily accessible to Linux users. As part of the Proton beta, Valve has confirmed that several titles that were developed for Windows have been whitelisted and enabled to work with the updated Steam Play. Sadly, this also means that any other titles not approved for usage won’t work, but don’t let that stop you from trying.
